With reference to my despatch No. 27
of the 3rd March concerning british subjects
of Chinese descent, you will recollect that at
your interview with Marshal Li Chai-sum on the
27th February, the Marshal and the Commissioner
for Foreign Affairs promised that immediato
provision would be made for the issue of remun-

that I should be supplied with questionnaire
forms for the use of applicants.
2. Since your departure from Canton, I
have not coased to pross this question upon the
attention of the Canton Government, and I now
forward a copy and translation of a note from
the Commissioner for Foreign Affairs, which.
with its enclosures, givos effect to the
arrangement agreed upon during your visit to
this port. The note communicatos provisional
